For northern Wisconsin, it's been a banner week. As the governor and his entourage have fifed through the northern part of the state, they've been busy spreading goodwill through much needed grant dollars.
Already, the governor and his staff have offered millions to projects in this part of the state, and he's only been here since Sunday.
Notably, it's an election year; one in which the governor's political party -- Democrats -- are trying to hold onto seats in the Senate and gain seats in the Assembly to assume control of two of three government branches.
Also notable is the fact that the state is facing hundreds of millions in shortfall that neither the legislature nor governor have dealt with in an adequate way because the reality is politically unpopular.
Those losses in tax revenue were projected before reports of hundreds of jobs lost around the state were known because more companies closed or closed sooner than expected.

One could argue the investment is needed to build our economy. We agree.
However, who in their right mind would by stock on a credit card, pay 18 percent or 20 percent interest for a 10 percent gain.
That's the state's dilemma. The credit card is over extended.
While politicians are running around the northern third of the state, spending like drunken sailors, beneficiaries ought cash the checks quick before they bounce.
And taxpayers beware. The political glad-handing is coming at your expense.
