Undoubtedly, a number of strained taxpayers read about plans to remodel space in the Government Center with a note of exasperation.

Who could blame them?

At the same time, the majority of the Douglas County Board had the foresight to differentiate between an investment -- one in which the return will cover the expense in four short years.

We agree with Supervisor Jack Sweeney that this one was a no brainer.

However, it raises another question. What is the plan for parking?

Douglas County has a unique opportunity to partner with the city of Superior to resolve that problem.

Many county board members agree additional parking is needed, and it will be even more necessary when the Aging Disability Resource Center opens in the Government Center.

The city, which is merely a tenant in the county government building, has agreed to pay half the costs of creating additional parking.

After all, city officials hear no shortage of complaints from people trying to find a place to park, many of them neighbors of the building who find themselves shut out from parking in the neighborhood because of the sheer volume of cars at the Government Center during the day.

We again urge county officials to come up with a plan to resolve the issues. Quit hemming and hawing and get the job done.

The longer you wait the less likely it is that taxpayers will be able to afford all this indecision.
