The Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Duluth's Lakewalk was vandalized with a metallic-colored paint pen and police are looking for the public's help in finding those responsible.
Graffiti and Xs were painted over towns and counties listed on the memorial, which includes the names of Northland military personnel who were killed or missing in action during the Vietnam War.
The vandalism was reported to the Duluth Police Department at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday and the incident is under investigation, police spokesman Ron Tinsley said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Duluth Police Department Property Crimes Unit at (218) 730-5160.
The Duluth Parks and Recreation Division sent a crew to clean the graffiti off the memorial, according to city spokeswoman Pakou Ly.
"The city of Duluth is disappointed and disheartened by the careless violation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial by vandals. The city is committed to maintaining and preserving the memorial for all visitors and will be taking the initiative to clean and restore the memorial immediately," Ly said in a statement.
