Duluth police on Wednesday issued a warning to the public about an increase in fake and counterfeit currency circulating in the area.

Specifically, police have seen an uptick in reports of fake bills with "Motion Picture Use Only" printed on them.

"The bills may appear real with the exception of the 'Motion Picture Use Only,' but will be detected using a counterfeit detection pen," police said, in sharing photos of fake $50 and $100 bills. "Oftentimes these bills are passed (in) busy settings ... that divert a person's attention, such as a busy line at the grocery store or restaurant."

Anyone who finds fake or counterfeit bills, or sees someone attempting to pass them, is asked to call 911.
