Doyle reappoints Moran to veterans board

Gov. Jim Doyle last week reappointed Pete Moran of Superior to serve as the chairman of finance to the Board of Veterans Affairs, the governing body of Wisconsin's Department of Veterans Affairs.

Gov. Jim Doyle last week reappointed Pete Moran of Superior to serve as the chairman of finance to the Board of Veterans Affairs, the governing body of Wisconsin's Department of Veterans Affairs.

He also appointed David Boetcher of Waunakee to the board and reappointed Marv Freedman of Middleton as chairman of the panel.

Boetcher retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 from the Wisconsin National Guard in November after 27 years of service. He joined the Wisconsin National Guard at age 17 and was activated with the 826 Ordnance Co in 1991 in the Persian Gulf War and in 2002 in Operation Enduring Iraqi Freedom. In 1997, he became a warrant officer.

Boetcher was appointed to replace William Andersen of Onalaska, who was appointed in February 2007 and resigned in November 2008. Governor Doyle appointed Boetcher for a term to begin August 31, 2009 and expire on May 1, 2011.

Doyle also reappointed Freedman and Moran to continuing that began Aug. 31 and expire May 1, 2015.

Freedman is currently serving his second term as board chair and was originally appointed in June 2004. He served in the U.S. Army in 1969 at Fort Knox and in 1970 with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam.

Moran, a board chair from 2007-2008, was originally appointed in July 2003. A retired colonel of the United States Army Reserve having served from 1964 to 1994, he was Commander of the 205th Ordnance Ammunition Unit in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 and Commander of the 826th Ordnance Company in Madison from 1970 to 1975. His military decorations include the Army Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Reserve Officers Association. He was a marketing and management instructor at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior and worked as an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at Mount Scenario College in Ladysmith. Moran has served on the Superior Common Council and board of directors of the Superior Douglas County United Way, Catholic Charities Bureau, Voyageurs Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Metro Credit Union. He has been a member of the American Federation of Teachers, the Wisconsin Association of Marketing Educators, the American Vocational Association and the Wisconsin Indianhead Vocational Education Association. He is a 2001 recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award.
