Gov. Jim Doyle announced a $386,728 grant to fund training in advanced manufacturing for nearly 220 individuals in the Northland Works GROW Region. The grant is the latest award in the Wisconsin Industry Partnership initiative, a new approach to training that gives industry a leading role in worker training.
"High-end manufacturing is Wisconsin's future," Doyle said. "This grant will give our workers in northwest Wisconsin the skills they need for the manufacturing jobs of tomorrow. By working together to effectively meet the needs of our manufacturers, we're putting people to work."
The grant to the Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board will be matched with regional funds to bring the total investment to $821,376 to meet the region's workforce needs. The Northwest Wisconsin Advanced Manufacturing Training and Industry Partnership will train 169 workers employed by manufacturers in the region. In addition, the project will provide training to another 48 unemployed individuals. The Northland Works Region includes the counties of Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washburn.
