Donald Tracy Hodsdon, 72, of South Range, passed away March 30, 2007.
He was born in Superior to C. Tracy and Ruth Hodsdon on July 3, 1934. He attended East High School in Superior.
Don married Nancy C. Nelson in 1956 and celebrated more than 51 loving years together.
He graduated from Superior State Teacher's College with a degree in music, and then completed a master's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
He began his teaching career in Minong and later was a teacher and administrator in the Hayward School District until his retirement in 1986.
Don was a kind, gentle husband and father and a talented musician. He played clarinet and saxophone for the Yellowjackets Dance Band while in college. He later played for many years in the Ernie Carroll Band and the Dean's List. One of his greatest joys was singing with his beautiful voice.
He was involved in youth baseball for many years in Hayward and was also a member of the Hayward City Council.
Don was a devoted husband and father with a passion for education and a deep concern for all of his students. He fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer's disease for almost 20 years.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; two sons, Kyle (Nita) and Tracy (Connie) of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Laura (Bill) of Middle River, and Caroline (Ron) Smith of Sun City West, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Gene Hodsdon of Boston, Mass., Rachael (Tim) Steckel of Bradenton, Maria (Ryan) Stephens, of Vonore, Tenn., David (Tara) Reed of Fort Myers, Fla., and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis.
A memorial service and celebration of Don's life will be held at a later date. Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
