Dominic Anthony Giansanti, 86, Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Superior, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 24, 2008, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 7, 1921, in Iron Mountain, Mich., to Victor and Marianna (Esposito) Giansanti. He served in the U.S. Army 1106th Combat Engineers in World War II from 1942 to 1945, receiving military awards including a Silver Battle Star and the Bronze Star.

He was employed as a salesman for Delta Hardware Co. in northern Michigan, then moved to Duluth in 1952 to work for Superwood Co.

In 1956, he moved to Superior, where he found his true calling by opening a restaurant named The Elbo Room and Sammy's Pizza. He semi-retired from the business in 1986, spending summers in Wisconsin and winters in Arizona.

In 1996, he published a cookbook of his favorite recipes to share his love of cooking with others. He moved to Arizona permanently in 2003. In addition to cooking, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, June; sons, John Giansanti (Gloria) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jeffry Paul Giansanti (Diane) of Superior and Thomas Bottolfsen, Superior; a daughter, Donann Hedderman (Patrick) of Magnolia, Texas; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Perrella, Hibbing, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Dominic Jr., and his sisters, Carrie Kowalczyk, Flora Clemo and Antoinette Sattler.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary Chapel, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, Ariz.
