Domestic abuse, standoff ends in arrest in Washburn County

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a call at approximately 11:50 p.m. Thursday from a residence on County Road P in Sarona from a victim of domestic abuse. The victim waited at the neighbor's for deputies to arrive.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a call at approximately 11:50 p.m. Thursday from a residence on County Road P in Sarona from a victim of domestic abuse. The victim waited at the neighbor's for deputies to arrive.

Deputies were told by the victim the suspect was intoxicated, pointed a firearm at her, and said he would kill her and the neighbors. The victim said she was afraid the suspect would kill her, himself or officers responding to the scene.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team was activated and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called for assistance in the use of their "Bear Cat" armored vehicle.

The Special Response Team attempted to contact the suspect by phone and with a loud speaker but did not receive an answer. Gas was launched into the home and the suspect exited and was arrested. Evidence at the scene revealed that the suspect fired several gunshots inside the home. No shots were fired at officers. The home was cleared and secured at approximately 5 a.m.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Washburn County Jail on charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, domestic abuse battery and a probation violation.
