Emergency burning restrictions in place since May 3 in Douglas, Burnett and Washburn counties are being lifted tonight.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has determined recent rain and new plant growth have reduced the threat of serious wildfires.

The outdoor burning restrictions for campfires and outdoor smoking will be removed at midnight. However burning permits in all three counties continue to be cancelled until further notice.

The recent rain does not exempt anyone from getting a burning permit in DNR protected areas.

For more information go to dnr.wi.gov/forestry/fire or contact the northern regional forester.
