Northland United Ways hosted the Day of Caring on Wednesday with the goal of raising awareness and volunteerism in the community. Businesses and individuals throughout the Twin Ports came together in support of local nonprofit organizations.
This year's projects range from building dog houses at the Douglas County Humane Society to doing some clean-up and straightening of shelves at The Salvation Army. About 100 volunteers were working in the Superior area, in addition to the employees contributing to on-site drives at their workplaces.
Kathi Madsen, director of the Douglas County United Way said not all the projects supported United Way-funded organizations. Above MacKenzie Newman, left, of Superior, and Maren Kienitz, of Duluth, both of the Scott Anderson Leadership Forum, work on grouping books together inside the Douglas County Historical Society during the United Way Day of Caring.
