Curling, give it a shot at Sunday's open house

The Superior Curling Club will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The SCC is located at 4700 Tower Ave. (Fairgrounds).

The event is for ages 10 thru adult. Those younger than 17 must be accompanied by a parent)

Curlers will need to bring a clean carry-in pair of sneakers, with all other equipment provided by the club.

There will also be curling available from 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays through March and the 2010-11 season will include a Junior's Program, along with our other leagues.

"Curling is a social sport," Nygaard said. "On and off the ice, it offers a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. It's the perfect winter ice-breaker.

The Superior Curling Club is home of the 1965, 1974 and 1978 world champions, 1988 Olympic Team and 1992 Olympic Bronze medalists.

Bud Somerville, member of world champion and Olympic teams will be instructing at the open house along with other club members.

"Our goal of the open house is to give people from the area the chance to participate in a challenging but fun sport that is open to all ages," Wheaton said.
