A Superior man will spend 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child.
Clifton Edward Carman, 31, pleaded guilty July 23 in Douglas County Circuit Court to one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child. He was sentenced Oct. 1 to 20 years in state prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
Carman was ordered to have no contact with the victim and no contact with minors unless it is approved by his supervision agent. He must remain on the sex offender registration for life.
It was reported to Superior police in May that Carman sexually assaulted the victim multiple times over the span of a few months at a residence in the city of Superior. A search warrant was conducted at the residence and a used condom was seized as evidence.
Charges are pending against a second person in regard to the assaults. Kaylee Rachelle Carman, 30, faces felony counts of neglecting a child-consequence is victim of child sex offense and failure to protect a child. A $5,000 signature bond was set for Kaylee Carman and she was ordered to have no contact with the victim except as arranged by the Douglas County Department of Human Services.
Kaylee Carman is accused of failing to protect the victim after learning of the assaults. Her next court appearance was set for Oct. 18.
