A Bayfield County deputy sheriff was arrested by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation on charges of possession of child pornography.

According to a news release issued by the DOJ, the 30-year-old deputy was arrested following an investigation into multiple uploads of child pornography through a messaging application. On the evening of Monday, Aug. 9, DCI agents executed a search warrant at the address where the deputy resided in Ashland. He was arrested and booked into the Ashland County Jail at the conclusion of the warrant search.

The Ashland Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Formal charges have not been filed. The Telegram doesn’t identify individuals until they are charged.

The deputy, who has worked for the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office for about one year, has been suspended, according to the sheriff's office.
