A Douglas County Jail inmate who died Saturday morning has been identified as a 33-year-old Superior resident.
Bradley Poverud was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning with an unknown medical condition. He died several hours later. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the incident is currently under investigation. The sheriff's office told the News Tribune the autopsy had been completed but a request for its results was not immediately returned.
According to Wisconsin Circuit Court records, Poverud was arrested Nov. 9 on three felony charges of identity theft with the intention and attempt to obtain money. Poverud was being held on a $1,000 cash bond and was set to appear in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing regarding those charges.
He was also scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for an initial appearance on the charge of operating a vehicle without a valid license.
Poverud has many charges of theft, burglary and shoplifting dating back to 2005. In 2012, he was sentenced to seven months in jail after pleading no contest to misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property and theft, both as a party to a crime related to a string of car break-ins on Wisconsin Point in the summer of 2012.
