Superior police are now investigating a suspicious death that occurred in the city’s Central Park neighborhood Tuesday, Sept. 29, as a suspected homicide.

The victim has been identified as Cindy Bennett, who died after what police believe to be injuries from a serious altercation with a man. Police identified the suspect as her adult son, Robert Lee Bennett III, according to a news release from Sgt. Marc Letendre. The son is being held at Douglas County jail on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide.

Officers responded to 49 Norwood Ave. at about 6:55 a.m. for a report of a person in need of medical attention.

Medical personnel tended to Cindy Bennett, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The intersection of Norwood and Gates avenues remained blocked off as of 12:38 p.m. Tuesday, with Superior police officers entering and exiting a corner residence. A number of vehicles were located in the area officers taped off, as well.
