A Superior man who allegedly had sexual contact with a 15-year-old waived his preliminary hearing in Douglas County Circuit Court Aug. 19.

Max Sterling McKenzie, 21, faces one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child. Cash bond of $1,000 was set in the case, and McKenzie was ordered to have no contact with the reported victim.

McKenzie picked up the victim from her house in January and drove her to a parking lot in Superior, where he had sexual contact with her, according to the criminal complaint. The Class C felony carries a maximum penalty of 40 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $100,000.

McKenzie’s next court appearance was set for Oct. 19.
