A Brule man accused of child sex assault waived his preliminary hearing in Douglas County Circuit Court on Feb. 27.

Daniel C. Schiefelbein, 21, faces one count of first-degree child sex assault-contact with a child under age 13. He was released on a $5,000 cash bond and ordered to have no contact with the reported victim and no contact with minors, with the exception of coworkers on the job.

According to the criminal complaint, Schiefelbein touched a child sexually under her clothing a number of times in 2014.

Schiefelbein admitted to Deputy Ed Gallagher with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office that he did touch the child for his own sexual gratification.

If convicted, Schiefelbein faces a maximum penalty of 60 years imprisonment.

His next court hearing was set for April 22.
