1 dead, 1 injured in Christmas shooting in Hibbing

HIBBING, Minn. — Police are seeking a suspect after a shooting on Christmas night in Hibbing left one man dead and another injured, authorities report.

Hibbing police have identified Jerome Diante Spann, 29, as a suspect in the case. Spann allegedly fled with an unidentified man, authorities said, adding that Spann may have traveled to St. Paul, where he has relatives.

After responding to a call just after 7:30 p.m., Hibbing police found two men who had suffered gunshot wounds, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. One man was taken to Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing — about 75 miles northwest of Duluth — where he was pronounced dead. The man’s identity is being withheld pending an autopsy.

The second victim’s injuries were not life-threatening; he was treated at Fairview Range Medical Center and released.

Spann is 6 feet, 1 inches tall and weighs about 210 pounds. He is considered armed and should not be approached, the BCA reported. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 911 or 218-263-3601.
