A 64-year-old Superior man was arrested early Sunday morning by the Wisconsin State Patrol for a fifth-offense drunk driving charge.

According to a news release issued by the State Patrol, the man was observed deviating within his traffic lane and driving at a speed considerably lower than the posted speed limit around 1:14 p.m.

The Trooper stopped the driver, and upon making contact with him, observed he displayed signs of alcohol impairment. He was requested to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior for an evidentiary blood draw.

Charges are pending in Douglas County.
