Alcohol appears to be a factor in a one-vehicle accident near Poplar Wednesday that landed a car in the Poplar River and injured two people.
The accident took place around 10 a.m. along Moonshine Road half a mile east of the intersection with County Highway D.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control on the gravel road and slid sideways into the bridge spanning the Poplar River, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol news release.
The force of the impact sent the vehicle over the bridge railing into the Poplar River. The driver, 27-year-old Lisa Olson, and passenger, 18-year-old Zachary Krivinchuk, both of Poplar, were transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital.
Olson was treated and released. Krivinchuk remained in fair condition at St. Luke's Thursday.
