Two men accused of sexually assaulting children were bound over for arraignment this morning in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Darin John Meierotto, 36, of Bayfield faces one charge of felony sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age for an alleged incident Nov. 8 in Solon Springs.

According to the criminal complaint:

Meierotto, who was living out of his truck at the time, had sexual contact there with a young runaway female. The truck was parked near a building in Solon Springs at the time of the assault. The girl was dropped off at her home by Meierotto the next morning.

He told officers he was concerned about the girl's welfare and that was why he picked her up. He also stated that he could not remember if anything sexual occurred and indicated that he used meth on a daily basis.

The girl told officers there was no force or threat involved in the incident and denied that alcohol or drugs were involved. A cell phone owned by the girl was found in the truck, which contained pictures of the girl and Meierotto kissing.

He remains in custody in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Alexander Joseph Pittman, 34, faces a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 without great bodily harm in a Nov. 6 incident.

The girl had spoken to a school counselor about the assault, according to the criminal complaint. The counselor then referred it to the Superior Police Department.

A videotaped interview with the girl was entered into evidence.

Court Commissioner Paul Baxter found probable cause to move the case forward. It was set for arraignment Jan. 22. Pittman remained free on $5,000 cash bail.

Pittman's attorney, David Malban, opposed Baxter's decision.

"There's a lot of questions in this case," he said.
