Court lodges lewdness charge

A Saginaw man accused of exposing himself to two young girls at a Superior convenience store made his initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

A Saginaw man accused of exposing himself to two young girls at a Superior convenience store made his initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Kurt Peter Haldorsen, 60, faces a misdemeanor charge of lewd and lascivious behavior for his actions on July 1.

Superior Police received a flood of calls from the public after releasing surveillance photos from the incident on July 29. The tips led to Haldorsen's arrest the following day.

According to the criminal complaint, the girls, ages 9 and 10, were getting slushies at the Super America at 1405 Broadway Ave., when they saw Haldorsen taking items from a rack of snacks and staring at them. They said the man pulled up the right leg of his shorts exposing his genitals to them.

The store surveillance tape from July 1 showed a man identified as Haldorsen kneeling down and pulling his right short leg up to his crotch area then over to his left, according to the complaint.

When Det. Tom Champaign showed the video to Haldorsen, he "stated that he had seen enough and agreed that he had gone too far."

Haldorsen pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a $500 signature bond. His next court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 29.
