Courage Center Duluth partners with UW-Superior

Courage Center-Duluth announceS an ongoing partnership with the Center for Academic and Career Advising and the Disability Support Services at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The UWS ABILITIES group, a student disability services group on campus has agreed to purchase facility time for Courage Center-Duluth to run programs on campus. Programs currently in the works include sled hockey and ice skating, indoor tennis, racquetball, power soccer, SCUBA Day Camp, and more.

"This gift from the UWS ABILITIES group will enable Courage Center-Duluth to run some new programs and reach out to Wisconsin," said Eric Larson, director, Courage Center-Duluth.

The total gift from the University of Wisconsin-Superior is $4,900.

"UWS ABILITIES is delighted at being able to partner with Courage Center-Duluth," stated Mary Lee Vance, director, Center for Academic and Career Advising and Disability Support Services. "The partnership is a true win-win for UWS ABILITIES and Courage Center Duluth, as well as for all the participants who will eventually benefit from the increased programming opportunities. Both UWS ABILITIES and Courage Center-Duluth actively support Universal Access, and in removing focus away from disabilities to instead encouraging emphasis on abilities. This partnership is just the first of many future joint ventures anticipated by the two groups."

Courage Center-Duluth provides adapted sports and recreation programs to people with disabilities in and around the Duluth area. It is part of Minneapolis-based Courage Center, a nonprofit rehabilitation and resource center, has had a legacy of improving independence and quality of life for people with disabilities. The full continuum of care includes rehabilitation therapies, transitional rehabilitation, pain management, vocational and community-based services, and camping and sports and recreation programs for people of all ages and abilities.
