Residents living in the third council district can learn more about economic development efforts, the city's 2008 budget and a host of other city issues as Council Vice President Kevin Norbie hosts a meeting for constituents Wednesday night.

Norbie said he's invited Jeff Vito, the city's development and government affairs director, to talk about economic initiatives underway in the city and Dave Podratz, manager of the Murphy Oil Refinery to talk about the potential expansion the Superior refinery. In addition, the mayor, county board supervisors serving the district and other city officials have been invited to answer people's questions about a host of issues.

Among the issues to be discussed is the city's 2008-2009 budget. The spending and revenue plan includes about a 2 percent increase in the city's tax levy each of the next two years. The funding plan, which was originally slated to eliminate funding for nonprofits, restored funding for the quality-of-life programs.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Northern Lights Elementary School.
