Superior’s City Council is looking for candidates to finish a portion of the term for the 6th District Council seat.

The Council opted to appoint a candidate living in the 6th District to fulfill the first year after former Councilor Graham Garfield resigned following a public outcry after he was charged in a domestic incident.

While Councilors considered appointing Tylor Elm, who lost the seat by one vote, a motion to appoint him Tuesday night to the Council failed by a 7-2 vote.

Councilors who voted against the appointment favored opening up the process to all who are interested.

Candidates have until May 31 to submit 20 nominating signatures from residents in the district, a letter of intent or resume. The Council hopes to fill the vacancy at its June 6 meeting. Whoever is appointed will finish the first year of the term, until a special election is help in April 2018, when odd-numbered Council districts are up for re-election.
