Bryant Elementary School students sought to comfort the Kimmes family after Thursday evening's tragic accident.

Teachers at the school sat down with their students Friday morning after the names of four victims of a toxic gas accident were publicly announced late Friday morning, said Principal Janna Stevens.

Joseph Kimmes III, Scott Kimmes, Paul Cossalter and Harold "Tim" Olson died after breathing toxic gas while working to replace a pump in a large collection tank for runoff from a demolition landfill.

Each teacher shared the bare bones of the tragedy with students and spoke with them about how some of their classmates would feel in the aftermath of the accident.

Several of the Kimmes' family members, friends and neighbors have children who attend Bryant school.

"We've got an incredible staff out there," Stevens said. "Everything went as well as could be expected in this tragedy."

The school's counselor also was on hand to work with any students who needed additional counseling.

After talking about the tragedy and its aftermath, students spent the afternoon making cards for the Kimmes family.

Stevens will deliver the cards to the family at the memorial services.
