Prayer. It is the most crucial element in the Christian life. Without it, we live powerless and unfruitful lives. Sure we may be able to get by and possibly even do a fairly effective job doing it but we could do so much more if we simply had the backing of God. Why is it that we can get so frustrated throughout the day when unexpected things come our way? It's because we are attempting to do them in our own power and strength, depending on our own ability. If we only go to God in prayer at the beginning and throughout the day, we would find that we would have a strength and peace that we would not have had otherwise.
Now you may say that it's easy for me to say since it is my job to be close to God. What I would like to suggest is that it is the "job" of every believer to draw closer to God through prayer and Bible reading. "Well, I just don't have the time. I'm so busy." That's interesting because if we want to spend time with friends or do some other activity, we will find the time. If God is really to be first in our lives, should we be able to find the time to spend with Him. Some also say, "I don't seem to get anything out of it. I don't hear anything from God." Sometimes, though, we pray while the TV is going or music is playing or the kids are running around the house. You need to set aside a time for prayer when there aren't any distractions. Maybe you can't hear Him because there are too many other noises vying for your attention. I want to encourage you to spend time in prayer every day.
