Carol J. Nelson, 65, Superior, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 15, 1941, to Norbert and Irma (Eliwatt) Kastern.
She enjoyed farming with her former husband, Pete Nelson, loved animals and doing yardwork. She also loved taking care of birds through her numerous bird houses.
Carol is survived by two sons, David (Terry) Swanson, Washington, and Lyle Schier, Eugene, Oregon; four grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Ware, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Clarence "Butch" (Arti) Kastern, Superior, Francis Kastern, Minong, and Jerry (Teresa) Kastern, Superior; two aunts, Hazel Kastern, Green Bay, and Alice Kastern, Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial graveside service will be held for Carol and her aunt, Lorraine Kastern, who passed away on Jan. 9, 2007, at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Francis Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Buttrick will officiate.
