A classic car show, a flea market and an auction will kick off August festivities in Lake Nebagamon. The month's events will end with a special recognition event for Lake Nebagamon police officer Jesse Beasley, who was seriously injured by a hit and run driver.

The car show and flea market will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday along Waterfront Drive and the public parking lot in downtown Lake Nebagamon. Flea market stands will also line the street.

A glass-blowing demonstration and a sale of unique jewelry and decorative items will take place beginning at 11 a.m. that same day at Lawn Beach Inn, 11590 E. Waterfront Drive.

Sunday evening will be climaxed with the annual Kids In Nebagamon auction at 7 p.m. at the historic Lake Nebagamon Auditorium. A wide array of unique items will be offered. "The bidding is always lively and very entertaining," said KIN president Carol Mallegni.

Vehicle owners or vendors who wish to participate in the car show may contact Jim Amundson, (715) 374-2191, or Swan Dawson, (715) 374-3101.

Other August events planned in Lake Nebagamon include a free concert and magic show at 7 p.m. Monday. The Chequamegon Cloggers, dancers from the Twin Ports PhilAm Society, and magician Jacob Roeber will be performing.

"This promises to be a fun night for the whole family," said John Graves, president of the Nebagamon Community Association, sponsor of the free Monday night concerts.

The annual Bridge's Golf Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 9 at Botten's Green Acres and Norwood Golf Courses. Golfers should call the golf courses for tee times. Refreshments will be served at Bridge's Indianhead Tavern in downtown Lake Nebagamon after the tournament.

The annual performance by the Duquesne University Tamburitzans will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 11, at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium. Tickets are $20 and should be reserved since the concert usually sells out quickly, Graves said. Tickets may be reserved by calling (715) 374-2283 after 11 a.m. any day, or (715) 374-3101 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A recognition and support event for officer Beasley will be held from 3-6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium. Beasley was on duty when he was injured by a hit and run driver. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium during regular business hours or the day of the event. There will be food, fun, an auction and prizes, said chairman Karen Lawler.
