Superior's city council tonight considers purchasing two homes in the area of two former schools.
By buying the older homes, the city is laying the groundwork for future commercial or public development in the area of the former Central and Blaine schools.
The city is taking advantage of an opportunity to purchase the homes that have become available, said Jason Serck, port and planning director.
The city has only begun talking about a proposal that could create a new tax increment finance district for infrastructure improvements in that area of the city, he said. Work on a specific plan for the area is likely to begin after the first of the year, Serck said.
The neighborhood has undergone significant change in the last few years with the closure of two schools, development of the Blaine Business Center in one school, and now the creation of a retail and office complex on the former Central site.

The houses at 1020 N. 13th St. and 1412 Weeks Ave. will cost about $97,000 and will be paid through the city's development fund.
The council meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
