Two weeks after a fifth-place finish in the Tustumena 100 dog sled race through the Kenai Mountains in Alaska, a Brule teen and her dogs tackle the 2018 Willow Junior dog sled race in Willow, Alaska.
Talia Martens, 17, is the only Wisconsin musher racing. Only two of the 10 participants listed on the Willow Junior 100 website hail from the lower 48, Martens and a musher from New Hampshire; the rest live in Alaska.
The 115-mile race begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday and ends Saturday. For more information or to track Martens' progress, visit willowjr100.weebly.com, www.taliasteam.com or the Talia's Team Facebook page.
Martens plans to compete in the Jr. Iditarod Feb. 24-25, before traveling home to Brule and classes at Northwestern High School.
