MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have spoken to representatives for several free agent catchers, including Jason Kendall, general manager Doug Melvin said Friday.
Melvin said team officials have discussed the potential of signing another catcher with current catcher Johnny Estrada, but wouldn't say publicly how such a move might affect Estrada's status as the Brewers' starter.
Estrada, who was acquired in a trade with Arizona last offseason, hit .278 with 10 home runs and 54 RBIs last season. But he was a defensive liability, throwing out only six of 79 baserunners last season according to STATS Inc.
Brewers backup catcher Damian Miller is a free agent.
Kendall, 33, hit .270 with the Chicago Cubs after a midseason trade from Oakland. The Brewers' interest in Kendall was reported by mlb.com Thursday night.

One free agent the Brewers aren't interested in: Barry Bonds, the former San Francisco Giants slugger who was indicted on five felony counts of perjury and obstruction of justice on Thursday in connection with an investigation into steroid use in baseball.
''I don't know what his future holds,'' Melvin said. ''Every club will have to look at it, but we're not in play.''
