The Superior High School boys tennis team got the season off on the right foot with a 5-2 victory at Hermantown Friday.

The Spartans won three of four singles matches and two of three doubles events.

"This was a good start for us," SHS coach Pete Conley said. "Hermantown has a good team, and coming away with a win is a good sign."

Winning singles matches were Cody Johnson, Nils Bergman and Corbin Walsh. Teaming up for doubles victories were James LaPine and Chris Berchild and Logan Carpenter and Pete Anderson.

"The kids put in a lot of time in the offseason and it shows," Conley said. "We have a lot of depth and lineups will be changing until I have the ability to see them all play. The snowstorm pushed us indoors and we have only been able to practice outside three times in two weeks, so it's been difficult to get a good idea of our potential."
