ST. CROIX FALLS, Wis. -- A man’s body was found Sunday when authorities pulled a car from a pond near a retreat center north of St. Croix Falls.
Blair S. Piper, 39, of Colfax, was pronounced dead by the Polk County Medical Examiner shortly after the sheriff's department received a call about a 2002 Subaru Legacy wagon, discovered submerged up to its roofline in the pond, located a short distance from the clubhouse at the Big Rock Creek Retreat, according to Sheriff Peter Johnson.
The center is located off Highway 87, about five miles north of St. Croix Falls.

The retreat center is a privately-owned 1,500-acre tract that includes a lodge and wilderness cabin. The center has been a venue for off-road bicycle- and cross-country ski races on its 20 miles of trails.
Johnson said in a press release Monday that Piper's body was discovered when the vehicle was winched from the pond.
