Superior firefighters were surprised by a furry visitor Tuesday evening. A bobcat wandered into the main fire station at 3326 Tower Ave. at about 8 p.m.

"Unbeknownst to us, he wanted in the station," said Battalion Chief Scott Gordon of the Superior Fire Department. Once the animal, which appeared to be injured, was in the station, firefighters locked all the doors. The bobcat ran into the mechanic's office and they locked the animal in the room before calling the Superior Police Department.

Superior Police Officer Michael Bach responded to the fire station.

"The animal appeared to be seriously injured or possibly rabid," he wrote in his police report. "It walked in a very 'wobbly' manner and did not exhibit fear of humans."

Using a dog catching noose, firefighters were able to secure the bobcat and bring it outside to a grassy area. Bach dispatched the animal with one shot from his pistol.
