The Superior Blues improved to 8-5 with a doubleheader sweep of Hermantown VFW Monday night at Morrie Arnovich Field.

The Blues won by scores of 15-14 in the opener and 6-5 in game two.

In the opener, Dan Tracy pitched five complete innings, allowing seven runs, three of which were earned.

In the top of the sixth inning, Superior turned to its bullpen as John LeDoux pitched 11?3 innings and Jordan Olson and Dan Launderville each pitched one-third of an inning.

After seven complete innings the score was tied 13-13. That is when Superior handed the ball over to Chris Blake, who took control of the game on the mound.

"We were reeling in the last few innings defensively and then Chris came in and helped stabilize things; he was very sharp," Blues coach Rob Scott said.

Offensively, Blake's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning completed his 5-for-6 day at the plate, which included a triple.

Cory Wilander also had four hits and Neil Baltes and Jake Bachinski added three apiece.

In game two, Blake continued where he left off on the mound. He pitched 52?3 innings, striking out five while walking four and giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits. Olson pitched 11?3 innings in relief to earn the save.

Offensively, Wilander, Olson and Nate Miner had two hits apiece.

"We have been kind of up and down lately, so hopefully this sweep will give us some momentum," Scott said.

The Blues are in the Eau Claire Tournament this weekend, opening against the host team Friday night at Stein Field.
