Bernice M. Christensen, 86, formerly of South Range, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in the Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, surrounded by her family.

Bernice M. Christensen, 86, formerly of South Range, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in the Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 15, 1920, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Henry and Theresa (Dobmeier) Britz.

She attended grade school in the town of Lakeside and she graduated from the former Cathedral High School.

Bernice married Howard Christensen on March 5, 1946, in Duluth and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.

She was a homemaker and had been employed by Job Service as a secretary.

Bernice was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its Rug Ladies. She enjoyed making cross stitch cards and cooking. One of her greatest joys was spending time at the family's cabin on Lake Minnesuing.

In addition to her husband, Howard, Bernice is survived by one son, Brian (Kristie) Christensen, South Range; one sister, Alvina Britz, Kirksville, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine; her parents; and a brother, Kenneth Britz.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. memorial Mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The Rev. Leon Flaherty will be celebrant.

Inurnment will be in Poplar Cemetery in Poplar.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Superior or St. Mary's Hospice Unit, Duluth.
