Bernard "Bernie"/"Archie" Archambeau, 82, Superior, died Monday, April 2, 2007, unexpectedly in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
He was born April 4, 1924, in Superior to Napoleon P. and Gertrude M. (Lozon) Archambeault and was a lifelong Superior resident.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was in the submarine division serving in the South Pacific.
Bernie married Adeline Fuhrman Feb. 12, 1985, in Duluth and celebrated 22 years of marriage.
He was employed as a conductor and switchman for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads for over 30 years before his retirement.
He had previous worked at Fraser Shipyards. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to travel and do needle work.
Bernie was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 606 and Moose Heart International, Knights of Columbus, VFW and American Legion.
In addition to his wife Adeline, Bernie is survived by one daughter, Terri-Ann (Jeff) Collins, Superior; Superior; one son, Tim (Gail) Archambeau, Hot Springs, S.D.; two stepdaughters, Jacqueline Johnson, Superior, and Judy (Dan) MacDonald, Aitkin, Minn.; four grandchildren, Christina Ann "Nina" (Shawn) Penney, Superior, B.J. Archambeau, Texas, Ryan-J (Brie Hebert) Collins, Superior and Jon Archambeau, Hawaii; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cecilia Ronchi, Superior, Bernadette Amys, Superior, and Adele Archambeau, Superior; four brothers, Ray Archambeau, Superior, Jerry Archambeau, Superior, Lawrence (Lorraine) Archambeault, Superior and Harold Becker, Superior; two special nephews, Jerry (Shelly) Amys, Superior and Butch Archambeau, Superior and other nieces and nephews.
Bernie was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Archambeau, his parents, a grandson, Luke Archambeau, two sisters, Kay Benson and May Parenteau and two brothers, Napoleon "Nap" and William Archambeault.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. The Rev. James Tobolski, pastor of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, will officiate.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
