Warm, dry weather and brisk winds are combining to create very high wildfire danger conditions in 13 counties in north central and northeastern Wisconsin. The DNR forest fire control officials say the fire danger is very high to extreme in the following counties: Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Sawyer, Vilas, Oneida, Forest, Florence, Marinette, Lincoln, Langlade, Menominee, and Oconto. Burning permit suspensions and emergency burning restriction also remain in effect for several of these and other affected counties.
The current weekend weather outlook indicates Red Flag and Fire Weather Watch conditions. Strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures combined with very dry fuel will continue to pose a wildfire danger in northeast and north central Wisconsin through Sunday night.
Fire officials remind everyone that those responsible for causing a wildfire are liable for suppressions costs and damages to property caused by the fire. Current fire danger conditions are posted on the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov/forestry/fire.
