Add another preseason honor to the list being compiled by Wisconsin senior Jolene Anderson. She was one 30 basketball players selected as nominees named for the 2007-08 Women's Wooden Award, the John. R. Wooden Award committee announced on Wednesday.
Anderson, who last week was named the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year by the conference coaches and media, is on the list of players who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the frontrunners for one of college basketball's most coveted trophies.
She was the Big Ten scoring champion in 2006-07, averaging 19.3 points per conference contest. The senior is the only returning member of last year's All-Big Ten first team and was a unanimous selection to the coaches and media Preseason All-Big Ten teams. The 5-8 guard led the Badgers in scoring (19.8) and rebounding (7.1) a third-straight season.
The Port Wing native became the fastest male or female Badger to earn her 1,000th and 1,500th points, and needs just 280 points to become Wisconsin's career scoring leader. She is a three-time USA Basketball select team gold medalist and is on the 2007-08 preseason "Wade Watch" list for the State Farm Wade Trophy Division I Player of the Year.
