Aileen E. Carlson, 89, formerly of Cloverland and Brule, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, Superior.

She was born in Brule, on Dec. 23, 1917, the daughter of Matt and Mary (Hamalainen) Hakkila. She married Floyd Carlson on Jan. 16, 1943.

She had previously worked for the former Globe Shipyard, ASCS, and also served the town of Cloverland as town clerk for several years.

In 1959, Aileen was employed by the former Twin Ports Creamery as a secretary/bookkeeper for many years until her retirement.

Aileen attended the Cloverland Covenant Church and the Brule Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Covenant women.

Aileen especially loved baking, gardening, picking berries and processing food.

She is survived by one daughter, Judy (Don) Lahti, Cloquet; two grandchildren, Gregg (Karen) Lahti, Gilbert, Ariz. and Janelle (Travis) Rogers, Glendale, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren, Stefanie Elco, Victoria Lahti, and Maranda Rogers all of Arizona; two sisters, Miriam Lehto, Brule, and Velma Doby, Iron River; two sisters-in-law, Ailie Hakkila and Margaret Carlson; one special grand niece, Shelli Meteraud and many nieces and nephews.

Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 1996; a sister, Helen Copp and a brother, Martin Hakkila.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. funeral service in the Brule Presbyterian Church with Pastor Deborah Bartelt officiating.

Interment will be in the Poplar Cemetery.

The family would like to express there heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff at Villa Marina for the wonderful care that was given to Aileen.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Cloverland Covenant Church or the Brule Presbyterian Church.
