Agnes A. Matyas, age 91, of 1113 Front Street East, Ashland, took the Lord's hand when she heard Him call her name on Monday, May 14, 2007, at Golden Living Center-Court Manor in Ashland.

Agnes A. Matyas, age 91, of 1113 Front Street East, Ashland, took the Lord's hand when she heard Him call her name on Monday, May 14, 2007, at Golden Living Center-Court Manor in Ashland.

Agnes was born Jan 18, 1916, in Ashland, the daughter of Anthony and Anastasia (Czychosz) Szymkiewiz. On Jan. 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to George Matyas in Ashland. She was a homemaker who enjoyed praying, her grandchildren, gardening, crocheting, baking, playing cards, her houseplants and pets.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, George, of Ashland; four daughters, Judith Korgie of Mauston, Joan (William) Brayton of Medford, Janice (Gilbert) Compton of Ashland and Catherine (Alan) Stewart of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Steven (LuRinda) Johnson, Jennifer (Michael) Pietsch, Christine and Ellyn Brayton; three great-grandchildren, Ian and Christopher Johnson and Abigail Pietsch; her half sister, MaryAnn Koffauf of Ashland; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Peter Suminski; one sister, Margaret Shun; her half brother, Edward Suminski; and one son-in-law, Edward Korgie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with the Rev. Henry Willenborg, OFM, as celebrant.

Interment will take place in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen.
