The Catholic Diocese of Superior has named the retired priest they suspended this month for alleged sexual misconduct: 77-year-old Father Robert Urban.

Urban has been retired from the ministry for 13 years, but the Diocese says he was still active in several area parishes.

Superior Police have said in a previous statement that they are investigating a complaint of sexual misconduct against a retired Superior priest, but did not name Urban. The statement says the alleged incident happened against an adult.

SNAP, a victim's advocacy group, says it's important that Urban's name be released. SNAP Minnesota Director Bob Schwiderski says they need to get people to step forward and give police information.

Urban served at St. Williams Catholic Church in Superior from 1970 to 1987, as well as other Wisconsin churches in Cable, Hurley, Foxboro-Dairyland and Glenwood City. He worked several years in the Superior Diocese as the editor of the diocesan newspaper.

Before he was suspended April 1, he had occasionally conducted mass at Superior area churches.
