The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Communication Center received an emergency call at 11:26 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, reporting multiple people were struck by lightning at the Big Fish Golf Club in the town of Hayward.

Four men, golfers, were found suffering from injuries received from a nearby lightning strike on the golf course. They were found alert and conscious and were transported to a local hospital, according to a news release issued by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.

Their condition is unknown, the release stated.

Information gathered at the scene indicates the men were four family members visiting the area from southern Wisconsin.

Sawyer County deputies and EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, Lac Courte Oreilles police and tribal wardens and Hayward police and fire responded to the call.
