An SUV struck the back of a dump truck filling potholes in Superior on Thursday morning.
A 92-year-old Barnes, Wisconsin man was driving north on East Second Street when he merged into the left lane, striking the side of a semitruck. The SUV then hit the back of the city dump truck filling potholes near 42nd Avenue East.
The crash was reported to the Superior Police Department at 9:58 a.m., Assistant Chief Matt Markon said in an email to the News Tribune Thursday.
The 92-year-old man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Markon said.
No crew members patching potholes were injured, but the city dump truck sustained damage, Public Works Director Todd Janigo told the News Tribune.
“The SUV crashed into a portable crash barrier mounted on the back of a city dump truck, designed to protect city workers from just such an incident,” Janigo said.
