The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract for dredging in the Duluth-Superior Harbor.
Dredging will begin in August with an expected completion by mid-November.
The more than $2 million contract was awarded to Roen Salvage Co. from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The contract is to dredge approximately 120,000 cubic yards of material from the harbor and place approximately 52,000 cubic yards of mostly sandy material along the north side of Park Point's shoreline.
Additionally, about 68,000 cubic yards of materials will be placed at Interstate Island Wildlife Management Area in the St. Louis Bay.
"Maintenance dredging executed under this contract will allow ships to safely navigate in the Duluth-Superior Harbor and the dredged material will be beneficially used for beach nourishment and habitat restoration," said Melissa Bosman, project manager.
