Foot and snowmobile travel on the Nemadji River in the vicinity of East Eighth Street and 37th Avenue East is prohibited until work on the railroad bridge over the river is complete, according to the Superior Public Works Department.

The contractor will be performing work in the water, utilizing a barge in the river. Ice will be broken up every day to maintain open water for the barge, making it impassable for foot and snowmobile traffic because ice formation will be minimal.

Water is expected to be open about 200 feet upstream and 600 feet downstream of the bridge.

The work is expected to continue through December or January.

The site is marked by barricades.
