Superior’s City Council adopted an ordinance that decriminalizes possession of small amounts of marijuana.
Under the ordinance, Superior police officers the discretion to issue a citation to people possessing 25 grams or less of marijuana, avoiding state criminal charges. The citation carries a fine ranging from $100 to $500. The fine doesn’t include court costs.
Councilor Craig Sutherland thanked Police Chief Nicholas Alexander, City Attorney Frog Prell and District Attorney Mark Fruehauf for their help in drafting the ordinance.
“This will give a lot of people a second chance,” Sutherland said.
