The enrollment period for 2018 health coverage through the Affordable Care Act opened Wednesday.

Wisconsin residents and families can explore health care opportunities, renew their current plan or pick a new plan through the ACA's Health Insurance Marketplace.

Sen. Janet Bewley, D-Delta, is encouraging Northern Wisconsin residents who are uninsured or in need of affordable coverage to visit and learn more about their health coverage options.

"Are you uninsured or looking for a more affordable health care plan?" Bewley asked. "I wanted to let you know that open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act is underway. As of Nov. 1, Wisconsin residents can visit the website to compare insurance plans and sign up for affordable coverage. Go online now to explore your health insurance options before open enrollment ends on Dec. 15."

More than 240,000 Wisconsinites enrolled for a health care coverage through the federal marketplace in 2017, marking an all-time high. In addition, more than 80 percent of all enrollees qualified for premium subsidies, according to Bewley.
